During the summer of 2024, PhD student Calvin Leung, postdoctoral fellow Dr Nanette Raczka and former research associate Nur Estya Binte Rahman from the TEE lab were delighted to be invited by our collaborators from the Universiti Brunei Darussalum to attend the ‘Brunei Darussalam Conference on Biodiversity: Nature’s Blueprint for Sustainability’.

Nanette gave an oral presentation showcasing how nutrient acquisition strategies and fine root dynamics drive belowground functions in tropical peat swamp forests along a disturbance gradient. As one of the expedition leading researchers of the Batu Apoi scientific expedition, Calvin got the opportunity to present the preliminary findings regarding the differences in saproxylic insect communities between sustainably logged forests and primary forests.

Our TEE Lab members had a wonderful time during the conference exchanging knowledge and expanding our collaboration network, particularly regarding the research in tropical peat swamp forest in Southeast Asia.
