We are delighted to share that our recent study on butterfly biodiversity in Singapore’s urban environment has been featured by NTU News, NTU Research Hub, and Lianhe Zaobao!

Our research reveals that maintaining flower-rich, less-cut road verges (Figure 1) can significantly enhance both the species richness and abundance of butterflies in highly urbanised areas. These findings highlight the importance of designing urban green spaces not just for aesthetics, but for meaningful ecological benefits as well.

Figure 1. Road verges with different cutting regimes: (a) Recently cut verge with uniform height and few resources for butterflies, (b) Verge several months post-cutting with many flowering plants and better butterfly habitat, (c) Selectively uncut verge with varied plant heights, offering the most suitable conditions for butterflies.
