In a pioneering effort, researchers have compiled a global database on springtail communities, providing comprehensive insights into these often-overlooked soil invertebrates. The database includes 249,912 occurrences from 2,990 sites, offering fine-resolution data on springtail abundance and community structure across various continents and habitats. Members of the TEELab - Dr. Eleanor Slade, Dr. Lam Weng Ngai, and TEELab undergraduate alumni Tay Li Si and Yasuko Chow contributed records from forest sites across Singapore. This resource, which serves as a fundamental tool for understanding global soil biodiversity, presents data at the species level with detailed sample-level records. The publication, led by Dr Anton Potapov and co-authored by the TEELab researchers, facilitates macroecological studies and bioindicator research, marking a significant advancement to unravelling the mysteries of soil life.
