On 30-31 August 2024. the Tropical Ecology & Entomology Lab (TEE Lab) had our first in-person meeting with our collaborators in Kyoto, Japan. This meeting is part of the recently awarded 'Building capacity for biodiversity identification and monitoring an ecologically important insect taxa in Southeast Asian ecosystems' grant, which is funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

The meeting begun with a round of short presentations on the research by the TEE Lab, and our collaborators, Dr Tetsuro Hosaka, Dr Showtaro Kakizoe, Dr Ming Bai, and their students. We were also super excited to meet and engage with one of the main experts of Southeast Asian dung beetles, Dr Mashiro Kon. He provided many useful inputs on the Singapore dung beetle specimens and identification key that was thoroughly prepared by our PhD student, Zann Teo.

Moving forward, we will be working closely with our collaborators to resolve the taxonomy of the dung beetles of Singapore and Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, digitise specimens, and database occurrence records for Southeast Asia.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
