Congratulations to Zann for being awarded with the CN Yang Scholars Programme CY1400 Research Award!

Zann's project poster

In her first undergraduate year, Zann investigated the spatial and temporal turner of dung beetle communities and dung removal in the tropical forests of Sabah, Malaysia. She analysed data collected across a land-use gradient, from old-growth forests to oil palm plantations, within the Stability of Altered Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project site. She found that disturbed sites had simpler dung beetle communities with lower abundance, richness and diversity. Sites with lower abundance and richness also had lower rates of dung removal. Thus, her project highlights the importance of considering multiple biodiversity metrics when studying the response of species communities to habitat disturbances.

Great work Zann!
